(2017-05-02, EH Bulletin) To improve the research and therapy of human diseases in China, the National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC), the main research fund resource in China, is fully supporting development of disease animal models. For this, the Medical Science Section of the NSFC has specially set up a separate program “Disease Animal Models”   in 2017, and encourages biomedical scientists to develop more innovative and valuable animal models for medical research. The winning proposals would receive average support of ￥800,000 each. Since in 2011, the NSFC has already started to continuously support the development of disease animal models by appropriating special funds, in order to improve and enhance the existing medical research landscape in China.

The lagging behind of the current research for disease of animal models in China has slowed down and restricted the advancement of health research. The establishment of the Disease Animal Models' program demonstated that the NFSC puts a high premium on disease animal models and valued their applications in medical field.
